Putti Village

We observed widespread malnutrition in
this impoverished community. It was obvious that kwashiorker was endemic amongst the children. Ironically, many parents believe the "distended bellies" on their children mean that they are well fed.

The eight Abayudaya villages range from the most central in Nabagoye to the most isolated in Namatumba. The Putti Village community is  one of the most interesting. Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, the chief rabbi of Efrat in Israel, maintains a special relationship with this community. He has offered scholarships for qualified students to enroll  in his yeshiva. Their community leader, Enosh Keki Mainah, is currently at Yeshiva Machanaim completing his studies for his rabbinical "smicha" degree.

Putti Village is also building a medical center that is scheduled  for completion in March, 2015.  A request has been made  by the community, which is in critical need of dental services, to set up a mobile dental clinic in the village on our next mission trip. This represents an unprecedented opportunity for volunteers to play an essential role in supporting the lives of a Jewish people in need. Your commitment has never been more timely.
