mission Accomplished!

We have just returned from our October 2023 mission in Mbale District in Uganda where we were graciously hosted by Gershom Sizomu former Member of Parliament and the Abayudaya community. We are also proud to announce that we have just completed our first ever medical/dental mission. Renowned opthalmologists Frank Larosa MD, PhD and Seth Krawitz MD performed over fifty cataract surgeries in Mbale Hospital. Kathleen Larosa MD made the pediatric rounds even diagnosing a case of muscular dystrophy on a three year old.
Veselin Shumantov DDS and Ivan Ssejjoba DDS were the stars of the dental clinic . They treated hundreds of students from the three area schools in Nabugoye in addition to the adults in the village. These extremely talented dentists handled the most difficult extractions with ease.
The October 2023 dental program was run concurrently with our "Dental Explorations Team" and Tufts University Dental School headed by John Morgan DDS, Professor and Director of Special Projects and Global Service Learning. Our dental crew included ten dentists, six Tufts dental students and over a dozen support personnel. For our program to be selected by Tufts to offer training to their dental students is a testament to the high quality and standards of our mission.
We strongly encourage medical personnel in all fields to sign on to this exciting venture. There is a tremendous need for doctors/dentists as well as nurses, hygienists and assistants to alleviate the pressing health care issues in this part of the developing world. Please leave your contact information.
P.S. - We were also able to squeeze in time for a hike to Sipi Falls.

Twelve years ago I arrived in the Abayudaya village of Nabugoye in eastern Uganda with a small portable dental unit treating a handful of school children in the Hadassah Primary School. Our recent team of volunteers completed the largest, most comprehensive dental field mission in the history of Uganda. We offered dental care to well over 2,500 children and adults providing a wide range of treatment modalities including radiographs, endodontic therapy and children's specialty services. The Ugandan medical community was so impressed with our work that they have requested us to redesign their dental care delivery system.....David Abramowitz DMD, Program Director We are also aware that the nutritional needs of the majority of the village children are not being met. We serve freshly slaughtered kosher goat and halal meat with beans and rice on all of our missions to our many patients for lunch. This provided the Jewish, Muslim and Christian communities, especially the children, with much needed dietary protein. Many thanks to our American, Canadian, Israeli and British volunteers and the large Abayudaya support group that make this dream a continuing reality. Volunteers are always welcome to spend time in beautiful Nabugoye. You will experience the richness of life in Uganda and meet a community of extraordinary people. The talents you possess will be greatly appreciated. Past volunteers have included dentists, medical doctors, dental hygienists, scientists, engineers, educators, business entrepreneurs, students, military personnel and those just seeking a unique cultural experience. The Outreach Center administers to the dental needs of all members of the Muslim, Christian and Jewish communities. All volunteers regardless of their backgrounds are encouraged to take part in our mission. Everyone who has visited this community has described it as a transforming experience. Dr. John Morgan, Professor Tufts University Dental School: This is the only mission I have been able to locate that meets the high quality and standards required by Tufts for me to entrust my students to. Member of Parliament Rabbi Gershom Sizomu: You are amazing, we are proud to have you as a member of our community. Dr. Stacy Silvers, Otolaryngology : The experience we had was unforgettable and we look forward to many more. You have a wonderful mission and deserve a lot of credit. Dr. Eli Davidyan: David, it was pleasure working with you. You are an amazing guy with a lot of passion for the Abayudaya community.
